At what age do you do a breeding with your females. 1st heat 2nd heat or 3rd heat. What if a female comes into her first heat right at 12 month/1yr old? I usually wait until their 2nd heat so they'll be around 14-18 months it really depends on the dog, how mature their body looks and how mature their mind is. I know in the wild dogs breed back to back and don't skip heat cycles, lol. Just wanting a little input on everyone else's knowledge
There are alot of rules that man made, that werent what Nature intended. I think you should go by how the female acts, I was told if shes ready then shes ready lol
I never breed on the first heat always wait for the second heat. Then depending on how well she recovers depends wether or not I breed her back to back. But usually I skip heat that away she the Dam recovers back to full healthy condition. The Dam is the main concern. Thats just my ethics....

I understand and agree with the both of your. This is the first time I've had a female to wait until a week before her 1yr bday to come into heat. She acts really mature. I'm don't think her size will have alot to do with it but I carried her to the vet today and weighed her and she weighs 59.6lbs and has a 19"head.
Don't get me wrong in my head I'm 7 out 10 times saying wait until her next heat but she acts really mature and her body looks really developed so my head is also saying go ahead b/c by the time the pups get here she'll 14 months. I have kennels and she's been tearing them up getting out and I have no other way of keeping her in, my only choice would be maybe to put a stud in their with her to maybe keep her from trying to get out. I'd hate for her to get out and get hung up with a damn stray or something.
I would also wait until the next heat. My Bitches don't like the kennels either but I've bordered the bottoms all most all the way around with 11 guage metal. Only way to keep them in! You will get through it!

most of our dogs are bred on their third heat.... i'm not sure if there's any damage from breeding on the first...i've also heard about 'in the wild there's not sensorship'
Usually in the first heat the bitches body is not formed enough and could futher damage her growth later down the road. Although she may appear to look ready 99% chances are she really isn't. Basically you could ruin her. I agree with the 3rd heat, but not always do I wait. Depends on her heat cycles. Just I really don't want 2 litters at the same time, here. Good Luck...

I haven't never bred on the first heat I've always waited till at least the 2nd. I'm not planning on breeding her this heat. It's just she's the first female I've ever had that waited until she was 1yr old to come into her 1st heat.
